Something I’ve touched quite a bit on over the past few years on my social media and blog is daily devotionals. And that’s because I absolutely love them! Not only does a devotional help to inspire, enrich and equip, but they also help to encourage a deeper relationship with God, to get into His Word daily, and to help you grow in your journey of faith.
Devotionals are great to read throughout the day, and as they are usually presented in short chapters, they make for easy-to-digest reading. Plus most devotionals also have a time for reflection at the end and a time for prayer, which is great for getting that much needed quiet time in! Plus they are great to use alongside during your Bible study time, or even to use whilst journaling in your Bible.
As it’s a brand new year, it’s a great time to start a devotional. Below, I’ve included 4 devotionals, published by The Good Book Company, that I know you’re going to love, and will really help you, and inspire you in your walk with Jesus. Each is slightly different, but I’ve included a little bit about each one and also the link where you can get a copy.

Truly, Truly, I Say To You by Adam Ramsay
This beautifully presented devotional, includes meditations on the Words of Jesus from the Gospel of John, and also includes insights from Cahrles Spurgeon. Each chapter is about 3 to 4 pages long, and includes a time for reflection or prayer at the end of each one. The author has also included at the end of each chapter, an excerpt from one of Charles Spurgeon’s sermons, which add a truly wonderful touch to this devotional.
“With devotions and prayers from Adam Ramsey, along with insights from the 19th-century “Prince of Preachers,” Charles Spurgeon, you will encounter Jesus through these pages and experience the transforming power and tender comfort of his voice.
These 40 devotions are ideal for Lent, with two extra special reflections added for Easter Sunday and Monday. They can also be used at any time through the year, to deepen your own walk with Jesus.” Adam Ramsay.

Refreshed: Devotions For Your Time Away by John Hindley
This devotional is actually slightly different to other devotionals that I have read, which is one of the many reasons why I really love this one. As you’ve probably already guessed from the title, this is a devotional to take with you on holiday. But don’t let that put you off, as it can also be read even when you’re not on holiday, which is what I did, and I really enjoyed it. It’s a very inspiring and helpful book, which helped me to reflect and think about things that I haven’t really thought about before, and includes very thought-provoking questions. You can find my review here for this book on my blog.
“Holidays often give us an opportunity to rest and reflect. However, when our normal routines and habits are suspended, it can be hard to spend time with God.
These 30 devotions have been specifically designed to help you to rest in the Lord’s goodness and glory during your time away so that you can return home feeling refreshed spiritually as well as physically.” John Hindley.

Sanctuary: Cultivating a Quiet Heart in a Noisy and Demanding World by Denise J. Hughes
Another beautifully presented book, aims to help the reader to lead the ‘quiet life’ that Paul speaks about that we can read in the Book of 1 Thessalonians, and helps women to discover and find true peace in Christ in the busyness of life, which let’s face it we perhaps experience daily, along with the noise that this world can bring. The true peace in Christ is definitely what we all need! And it’s so refreshing to have a devotional that touches on this.
Each chapter includes at the end a ‘tuning in to quiet’ section, which helps the reader to contemplate, cultivate and pray.
“Whether it’s the TV or radio continually playing in the background or the persistent pinging on our phones, the constant noise and frenetic pace of modern life can be overwhelming. The cacophony of cultural messages that permeate the air produces an inner restlessness that says, “You should be doing more, saying more, posting more and sharing more.”

More than ever, we need sanctuary, not only as a refuge from the noise around us but also as a place where God’s truth can be clearly heard.” Denise J. Hughes.

Truth For Life, Volume Two by Alistair Begg
This beautiful book contains 365 devotions to read throughout the year. Each devotion is a page long and also includes at the bottom, prompts for reflection, which include the following questions: How is God calling me to think differently? How is God reordering my heart’s affections – what I love? What is God calling me to do as I go about my day today?
The author also shares at the beginning a prayer that you can use each day before you start reading each devotion. A really lovely touch. I feel that this helps the reader to fully engage with this devotional and to apply it to our day-to-day lives. The author has also included daily scripture reading and a yearly Bible-reading plan. As you’ve probably noticed from the title, this is volume two. I’m still yet to get volume one, and it’s definitely on my list!
“We all need to be reminded of the truth that anchors our life and excites and equips us to live for Christ. Reflecting on a short passage each day, Alistair spans the Scriptures to show us the greatness and grace of God, and to thrill our hearts to live as His children. His clear, faithful exposition and thoughtful application mean that this resource will both engage your mind and stir your heart.”
