Today’s post is all about creating a relaxing self-care evening at home. Practicing self-care has become an important part of my daily routine as an adult who’s nearly 30! And it’s something that I want to make more time for. Even if it’s just for a few minutes or even an hour, I like to add a little self-care care to my daily routine.

“Start by making more time for self-care activities this New Year. Never think that practicing self-care is being selfish. Self-care is an every day part in our daily lives that we should take seriously and allow ourselves to do.” 5 Tips To Make Self-Care Happen This New Year.

Below are 5 ways to create a relaxing self-care evening at home.

Take a nice hot bath or shower.

I find that having a nice hot bath or shower can really help when having a chronic illness. I personally love having a shower. I try to not have the water too hot though, as it can affect my PoTS, but I like to let the water run down my back as I sometimes get a lot of back pain and lower back pain. I also like to let the water run down over my stomach if I am experiencing any pain and discomfort. A nice hot shower can really help to soothe.

A while back when I was experiencing a bad flare up with my Crohn’s Disease, I found that a nice hot shower really helped with easing the pain I was experiencing.

Use Your Favourite Products.

Having either a nice relaxing bath or shower is also a great excuse to use your favourite products or brand new products that you have been wanting to try. When I’m in the shower I like to use my favourite moisturising shampoo and conditioner, a face mask and some nice smelling shower gel. And then after I have gotten out of the shower, I like to apply a small amount of hair oil and some leave in conditioner, which leaves my hair smelling so nice and feeling lovely and soft. I’m also a big fan of Aloe Vera gel. It’s cooling, soothing and moisturising.

I then put my comfy PJs and dressing gown on and move on to my skin care routine. I start by using a cleanser and toner, then I apply some facial oil followed by some face serum and then finally I apply some moisturising face and eye cream. It leaves me and my skin feeling so good.

Cook or bake your favourite food.

I find cooking and baking to be very relaxing and it’s definitely something I love to add to my self-care routine. Making your favourite food is both enjoyable and rewarding. It helps to take my mind away from any worries and my focus is purely on what is in front of me. It’s also a chance to use new and existing skills and to get my favourite recipe books out!

The Deliciously Ella recipe books are some of my favourites.

Pop on your favourite TV show or a film and enjoy some yummy snacks.

I’m a big Netflix fan! I especially love the Netflix original series. If you haven’t watched Anne With An E yet, I highly recommend giving it a watch! Another reason why I love Netflix is that there is a huge selection of films on there too! So whatever mood I’m feeling there’s always something to watch.

And having some yummy delicious snacks is definitely a must! And one snack that I absolutely love is popcorn. It’s a snack that I love to get when I’m at the cinema, so it’s like I’m having my own little private movie screening at home!

I was very kindly sent a box full of popcorn goodies from Popcorn Shed. In the box was a selection of different flavour packs of popcorn. I didn’t even know you could get popcorn in so many different flavours! With a mixture of sweet and savoury, you get the best of both!

Here are the flavours that I got…

The first flavour of popcorn in my box was Berry-Liscious, which is gorgeous blend of raspberry and dark chocolate. The popcorn is covered in a raspberry flavoured caramel and freeze dried raspberries.

The second flavour in my box was Butterly Nuts, which is a beautiful blend of peanut butter caramel, topped with real half peanuts, which created a delicious crunch to each popcorn. As a peanut butter fan, I was very happy to see this one in my box.

The third flavour I got was Pop N Choc. This one is definitely a chocolate lovers dream. Each popcorn is covered in Belgium chocolate and has a cocoa infused caramel base.

The fourth flavour I got was Sweet Cheesus. I never really thought about eating cheese flavour popcorn before! If you love cheese, then you will definitely love this one. It’s very moreish! Each popcorn is covered in cheddar cheese and buttery caramel. Which is honestly a perfect mix!

The fifth flavour I got in my box was Say Cheese. Another delicious cheese flavour pack of popcorn. Each popcorn is covered in mature cheddar cheese. My favourite type of cheese! This one was very cheesy, which is what I really loved about it the most!

And the last flavour that I got in my box was Pecan Pie. Each popcorn is covered in a delicious caramel and topped with yummy golden roasted pecans.

And you want to know the best bit! All of the popcorn and Gourmet Popcorn mentioned above are gluten free, they contain natural ingredients and they are absolutely delicious. And on orders over £17.99 you get free Popcorn UK delivery!

Weather you are looking to treat yourself and enjoy some of these tasty popcorn snacks during your self-care evening, or looking to treat someone to some yummy goodies, these make the perfect Popcorn Gifts. I always find Food Gifts to be a perfect gift!

I’m not sure if I can pick a favourite, as they were all so good! But I did really enjoy the Berry-Licious and Butterly Nuts flavour popcorn a lot! They made the perfect snack to enjoy whilst having a self-care evening at home.

Read a good book.

There’s nothing like ending a perfect self-care evening than with a good book. At the moment I’m currently reading The Space Between Time by Charlie Laidlaw.

“I find reading to be one of the most enjoyable activities of daily living. It’s relaxing, helps to reduce stress, it’s therapeutic and reading just before getting into bed helps me to have a good night’s sleep!” 7 Reasons Why Reading Is A Perfect Self-Care Activity.

I also love to read my daily devotional books in the evening and my Bible. It’s nice to take some time out of a busy day and to relax and read.

How do you like to spend a relaxing self-care evening at home? Let me know in the comments!

  1. I would say I’m definitely more of a morning routine person as I never seem to have much time in the evening, also because I’m a 22 year old granny who struggles to stay up past 9! But reading a book and having a stretch to some nice music is the best!!

  2. These are some great tips! Sometimes I think a relaxing night at home is one of the best ways to spend a bit of time on self-care. There is no pressure on looking nice or spending money, just relaxation and fun! Great tips and some of those popcorn flavors sound delicious!

  3. An evening at home is the perfect way to have some self-care. I find reading is my go-to self-care because books have always been my happy place. Of course, movies and snacks are a close second. Those popcorn flavors sound quite good.

  4. I’m definitely not a morning person! I love the post and the popcorn looks so good on the photos!
