5 Ways To Start Your Day With God

5 Ways To Start Your Day With God is in collaboration with LightHouse. I was very kindly gifted two of their amazing jackets and a gorgeous top.

Although I love spending time with God no matter what time of day it may be, there’s always something so special about starting my day with God. It’s a really important time of the day for me and It helps me to feel happy, refreshed and ready to start my day. Any anxiety, worry or fear that I may have woken up with or been feeling, soon melts away when I spend time with God.

Below I have listed 5 ways to start your day with God. These are just a few of the things that I find really great for starting the day with God and the things that I do myself. I really hope that you find this post helpful.

5 ways to start your day with God

Pray and talk to God.

Starting my day off with prayer is something that I really love to do. As soon as I wake up I like to tell God everything that is on my heart. I probably end up rambling on a bit, but remember, God doesn’t mind that one little bit! He would rather hear us ramble on than not talk to Him at all. I talk to God about anything that may be worrying me, things that I may be concerned about and things that I would like help with. And I tell God all of the prayers that are on my heart. Prayer is so powerful and it really helps to bring me a lot of peace and comfort, especially during this current season of uncertainty.

Whatever is on your mind, anything that is troubling you or anything that you would like some help with, God is ready and waiting for you to talk to Him. You can also start a prayer journal like I did. I use it to write down some of my prayers and then I can keep them all together in my journal to look back on.

“The Lord is near to all who call on Him.” Psalm 145:18.

However you are feeling today, talk to God about it and see and feel all of the wonderful things that Prayer can do. I am praying for you right now. I pray that you will wake up each morning and feel peace and comfort and ready to start the day. I pray that you will feel God’s presence and know that He is near. You are so loved and I pray that you will know just how much God loves you and that you are so wonderfully made. And I pray that God will calm any anxiety and fear that you may be feeling.

Spend some time in God’s Word.

I absolutely love reading, and it’s definitely a great way to start your day with God. There’s just something amazing about getting straight into the Word of God.

Maybe like me, one of the first things you do when you wake up, is grab your phone and scroll through Instagram, Twitter, Facebook or your emails. Something that I have been doing for quite a while now is when I reach for my phone in the morning, instead of jumping straight on to social media, I open up my Bible app. The Bible app that I use (Which I mention on my blog A LOT because I love it so much!) is the YouVersion Bible app. Recently on the app they have started doing a story, similar to Instagram stories, that is different each day, and includes scripture, a short video, a verse image and a prayer. I love it, because it’s always encouraging, inspiring and so helpful. Afterwards I like to head on over the Plans section of the app and read through my daily devotional plans. And lastly I like to scroll through some of the Bible verse images and save my favourite ones and highlight any verse from the Bible that really stands out to me in that moment.

Next I like to grab my Bible and read through a few chapters and also read from my daily devotional books. I’m currently doing the UCB Word For Today Bible in a year plan. You can get your copy here. It’s a wonderful and encouraging daily devotional and includes a daily Bible reading plan underneath each devotional. Another daily devotional that I like to read is Voice of Hope by Premier, which is filled with over 60 daily Bible-based devotions. Each devotional also includes a question to ask yourself and a prayer. Another wonderful daily devotional book that I read is Amazing You by Philippa Hannah. Definitely a daily devotional I recommend checking out.

During this time of lockdown and self-isolation, I have really been enjoying reading books by different christian authors. I’ve found them to be super helpful, amazing and very inspiring. The books that I have been reading are by Lysa TerkHeurst, Lindsay Bruce, Hannah Brencher and the book that I am currently reading now is a book called In The Fitting Room by Kelly Minter. I love reading about how God has helped them throughout their lives and how God is working through these amazing authors to help other people. Truly incredible books. (I will be putting up some reviews on my blog of the books very soon.)

I would love to know in the comments below what some of your favourite books by christian authors are?

Listen to some uplifting worship music.

Christian music is so uplifting, encouraging, inspiring, motivating, helpful and truly wonderful. The lyrics are filled with encouraging words, words that really speak out and have so much meaning to them, and will make you want to sing along out loud whilst dancing around your room! I love popping on a playlist filled with worship music and then listening to it whilst I get ready and I’m starting my day. It’s an amazing way to enter God’s presence and fill your mind and heart with worship music.

Below is a playlist that I have created filled with wonderful songs to start your day with. I will also keep adding to the playlist too, so please feel free to follow it and add it to your Spotify playlists. I would love to know who some of your favourite christian artists/bands are? Let me know below and I would love to know which christian song always makes you want to get up and dance and sing along to!

A few of my favourites are For KING AND COUNTRY, TobyMac, MercyMe, Love & The Outcome, Jamie Grace, Elevation Worship and Matty Mullins.

Bible journaling.

Bible journaling is such a fun and amazing activity to do whilst getting stuck into the Bible and the Word of God, and getting as creative as you want. I like to choose a part of the Bible to Study and then grab my Bible highlighters and highlight the parts of the text that really stand out to me. Then at the side of the pages, I like to write down my thoughts and feelings of that particular verse or chapter and get creative. I also like to do little doodles and add stickers! The journaling Bible that I use is the NIV Journaling Bible in Purple. I chose this one as it has got plenty of room for notes and reflections. And I picked up some Bible highlighters over on Amazon. I also found some really cute floral Bible tabs to place on each book of the Bible. You can also pick up some great Bible Journaling kits online too. There are some great videos on YouTube for tips on Bible journaling.

I personally find that it’s a lovely way to start the day and really helps me to think, learn, memorise and spend time with God. A journaling Bible is great for writing down thoughts, feelings, reflections, messages and prayer and to help you express your faith. I also keep a notebook handy that I like to write in too. So if I run out of room on one the pages in my Bible, I can carry on writing in my notebook.

Thank God for all of the wonderful things in your life.

Sometimes in life when things start to cause uncertainty and fear, it can be really hard. But it’s also really good to remember all of the wonderful and amazing people we have in our lives and the amazing things around us. We still have so much to be thankful for. They are all truly a blessing and gift from God. (Philippians 4:18) A post that I recently wrote for UK Church Online, I mentioned that one thing that I like to do is to take my fear and anxiety and turn it into gratitude. I always find that by doing this and by stopping myself thinking about the things that are bringing on fear and anxiety, instead, I think about the things that bring me happiness. Which helps to turn negative thinking into positive thinking. It helps me be so much more thankful for everything that I have around me and by being thankful it changes our perspective on things. By thinking about the happy things and being thankful to God for them, we can focus on all of the wonderful blessings that God has given us in our lives. When something is making you feel anxious or scared, instead try to think about all of the things that make you feel happy.

I love thanking God for everyone and everything that He has brought into my life that brings me joy. And I thank Him for protecting me and for helping me. After I tell God the prayers that are on my heart and any thoughts or feelings that I have that I want to share with Him, I always finish by thanking Him. It makes me feel happy, appreciative and so thankful.

And I am especially thankful for the lovely weather that we have been having. It’s been so wonderful being able to enjoy the sunshine and sit outside in the garden. I find being outside an amazing place for spending time with God. It makes me feel so thankful for everything around me, the birds, flowers, fluffy clouds in the sky. I love grabbing my Bible and books and heading outside with them to read. And as I’ve been spending a lot of time outside, when the air starts to get a little cooler I love popping on some warm comfy clothes and getting cosy with my book.

“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 118:24.

I was very kindly sent two gorgeous jackets of my choice from LightHouse. Both are super comfy and keep me nice and warm and dry throughout the day. I also chose this amazing top which is so comfy and perfect to pop on when the weather starts to turn a bit cooler. The Causeway top, which is made from 100% cotton, features a zip detailing at the back and has the little LightHouse logo on the front. It comes in lots of different colours and it was so hard to choose just one. They are all so pretty. But I decided to go for the one in the colour Purple/Blue Stripe in size 12. Both jackets are waterproof and windproof. I chose the Tori jacket in the colour Soft Pink in size 12, and the Bowline Short jacket in the colour Nightsky and is also in size 12. I think one of my favourite things about both jackets is the little message on each one which says, ‘Live simple, live happy.’

“Celebrate the simple moments, live a little slower and treasure everyday adventures.

Wouldn’t it be great to worry less about the weather and instead enjoy the moment you are in? Happily you can, because we have you covered.

To encourage a simpler, more joyful life, we create style led weatherproof clothing for the daily dash, easy coastal wanders and the wild and wonderful everyday.” LightHouse.

I have really been enjoying wearing each item of clothing, especially to keep me nice and warm and cosy whilst I spend time with God outside in the garden.

What are some of the ways you start your day with God? I would love to know in the comments. And if you have any questions or you would like to just have a chat please feel free to send me an email at clemloves@gmail.com

  1. For someone who has a rather complicated relationship with God at the moment, I still find time and joy to read daily devotionals. Especially with the pandemic going on, it’s a bit hard to get a grip on sanity, and yes, praying does help!

Hope you are well and safe. 🙂
