Book Review: Amy Carmichael by Hunter Beless

I’m so happy to introduce another fantastic addition to The Good Book Company’s Do Great Things for God book series! If you haven’t come across this series before, I’ve got some exciting news for you. On my blog, you can discover reviews of some of the other books in this series – a delightful collection designed for children. These books illuminate the inspiring stories of remarkable women of faith. Each book unfolds their lives, testimonies, and the incredible work they did to spread the Gospel and bring God’s peace and love to others.

I’m absolutely fascinated by the stories of these incredible daughters of God. Their journeys are rich with inspiration, encouragement, and beautiful examples of how God worked in their lives to make a difference for others. Their deep faith and determination to help those in need and spread the message of Jesus are truly awe-inspiring.

Today’s featured book shines a light on Amy Carmichael. Born in 1867 in Millisle in what is today Northern Island, Amy, the eldest of seven siblings, embarked on a remarkable life dedicated to sharing the Good News of the Gospel. From her early missionary days in Japan to her later work in Sri Lanka and India, Amy’s journey is an inspiring testament to a lifelong commitment to her faith.

Unfortunately, Amy Carmichael faced health challenges, and later in life, she suffered a severe injury after falling into a hole. Though she never fully recovered, she didn’t let it deter her from the work she believed and knew that God had called her to do. Even from her bed, Amy authored numerous books that continue to be widely read today.

Amy’s story will definitely inspire and encourage you, especially in your journey of faith. It’s also a story that will help and inspire the children in your life too, helping them to understand that they too can do great things for God, whilst learning about what it means to live a God-centred life, and to live out your God-given calling. Amy’s story is also a beautiful reminder that God is ever-present, and even during life’s storms, just like Amy experienced, God heals, He provides, and His timing is perfect.

Along with the other books in the Do Great Things for God series, it is a beautiful keepsake for your bookshelf, that will uplift and remind you of the Goodness of God, and how He can work through each and every one of us.

But that’s not all. When you head on over to the Good Book Company’s website, you’ll find some amazing free educational and faith-filled downloads, which you can save and print out. They are a great way for young people to learn more about Amy and her life, explore the Bible, and discover more about the countries that Amy visited.

I must highlight the gorgeous illustrations by Héloïse Mab that fill this book. Héloïse has also done illustrations for some of the other books in the series. They provide an amazing interactive and engaging element. Not only are they visually pleasing, but they also spark the imagination, allowing children to explore and envision the stories as they read through each page.

These lovely, easy-to-read books are an ideal present for the little ones in your life. They would also be a valuable addition to the bookshelves of churches. You can purchase a copy of Amy Carmichael by Hunter Bless here.
