If you have read my recent daily devotional blog post, along with some of my previous posts, you probably already know just how much I love a daily devotional! They’re a beautiful reminder for us to get straight into God’s Word, whilst nourishing the heart and mind, filling it with truth and the love of God. A devotional not only helps to inspire, enrich and equip, but they also help to encourage a deeper relationship with God, to get into His Word daily, and to help you grow in your journey of faith.
Truth for Life, volume two, is the second instalment by Alistair Begg, in the Truth for Life daily devotional book series, and is published by The Good Book Company. This beautifully presented hardback book, contains 365 biblically rich daily devotions, which shares the goodness and greatness of God, His Word and truth. It brings a constant daily reminder of this (something that we all need), for whichever season we are currently in, along with daily engaging prompts, and gives a gentle nudge each day to help us grow in our journey of faith.
“We all need to be reminded of the truth that anchors our life and excites and equips us to live for Christ. Reflecting on a short passage each day, Alistair spans the Scriptures to show us the greatness and grace of God, and to thrill our hearts to live as His children. His clear, faithful exposition and thoughtful application mean that this resource will both engage your mind and stir your heart.”

A lovely added bonus in this daily devotional, is that it shares a yearly Bible reading plan, which helps the reader to spend time each day after each devotional, to spend time reading and reflecting on God’s Word. Each devotion is a page long and also includes at the bottom, prompts for reflection, which include the following questions:
- How is God calling me to think differently?
- How is God reordering my heart’s affections – what I love?
- What is God calling me to do as I go about my day today?
I really love and appreciate all that this devotional has to offer and how the author has beautifully crafted and caringly presented this book throughout. It’s like reading a devotional and Bible study all in one! Along with the devotion reading for each day, the author includes scripture which the reading is based upon, there is also an additional scripture reading, along with the prompts mentioned above, to engage with and apply what we have read to our hearts, minds, and lives. Each devotion then ends at the bottom of each page with the Bible through the year reading plan, which helps to provide good daily habits for reading the Bible daily, and spending daily quiet time with God.
Did you know that I have a monthly newsletter called Little Notes of Light?
Little Notes of Light will bring inspiration, reflection and encouragement straight to your inbox each month. To subscribe, scroll down to the bottom of this page, or you can sign up by clicking here.
The book is presented in a stunning, eye-catching red hardback cover, both with and without the dust jacket, that will definitely catch the eyes of those who pass it on your bookshelf! It contains an introduction which helps the reader to understand more about the devotional itself and how to use and apply the daily prompts. The author also shares a prayer that the reader can use as they begin each day. Lastly, the book ends with a scripture index, which is very helpful for following the scripture through each daily devotion. There is also a pretty red ribbon attached to the inside of the book, so you know exactly where you are up to in your daily reading.
And if you’re wanting to know a little bit more about the author behind the book, Alistair Begg is the Senior Pastor at Parkside Church, which is in Cleveland, Ohio. Alistair is also the Bible teacher at Truth For Life (I highly recommend checking out the Truth For Life website and podcast on Spotify). Alistair graduated from theological college in London, and has also served two churches in Scotland.

My overall thoughts of this book is that it is an amazing daily devotional. It is biblically rich and scripture based, whilst helping the reader to produce good daily habits in reading God’s Word, and spending that much needed quiet time with God too. It is insightful, inspiring and impactful. There is honestly nothing I would personally change about this book. I am really enjoying it, and having not previously read volume one, it’s now on my wishlist!
