In God’s Perfect Timing

In God's perfect timing

I feel that these 4 words are words that I use more and more. Not to make myself feel better about a situation, but because I know that all things will happen in God’s perfect timing. It’s something that I have especially experienced in the last couple of years. In a season of waiting, where it feels as though we are stuck, we are unsure and we don’t know how to move forward, and we start to want things in our own timing, it’s in those seasons where God is moving through us, molding us and bringing a season of growth to us.

It’s where I have personally seen God’s wonderful and amazing works, His miracles and so much more the most in those seasons. They have helped me to lean fully on God during those difficult times, those unimaginable times, to surrender, to hand over everything, to fully trust Him, and to put Him first. Is it easy, no. But through God, I am strengthened and I feel His peace. A favourite saying that I love is, “God is turning my mess into a message and my test into a testimony.” And this is so true. In those moments, it’s a reminder that God is in control, that His love endures forever, that His promises are for every single one of us and that His plans for us are good.

“To every thing there is a season and a time to every purpose under the heaven.” Ecclesiastes 3:1.

In Proverbs 3:5 it says, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding.” I know from past experience that when I have wanted a solution to a problem right here and right now when I have wanted answers straight away when I’ve been too impatient to wait for something, the results never turned out how I had hoped. But it’s when I put my trust in the LORD, I was able to learn, grow, feel peace about a situation and not have to go through it alone.

I love what Joyce Meyer says, “You should never be jealous of someone who is enjoying harvest while you’re still in the planting season. Remember, they had to go through a season of planting just as you are. Seeing the results they are enjoying should be an encouragement to you. Understand and trust that God is doing the very best for you in your present season. Seedtime represents learning the will of God. Each time I choose God’s will instead of my own, I’m planting a good seed that will eventually bring a harvest in my life. If you want to be victorious, you cannot afford to get pulled into the world’s system, doing what you feel like doing.”

Last year I found myself feeling completely and utterly broken, as though the whole of me had been shattered into a million tiny little pieces. And as a result, I was battling with wanting to do things my own way and take control myself because I wanted answers right at that moment and to find a solution. But at that moment I gave God everything. And you want to know what happened! God picked up every single little piece and put me back together. It took time, but He molded me, helped me, gave me the strength to carry on, and my life was completely changed. My faith grew and it brought me so much closer to God.

It’s definitely something I’m still learning and working on, but it’s that instant peace I feel, that strength that flows through me, helping me to carry on and knowing that God is with me. And I remember His miracles, my answered prayers and how even in the deepest valley He was with me. It’s also knowing that with God all things are possible and He turns all things to good.

I love the verse above from Ecclesiastes 3:1. There’s a season for everything and sometimes we go through certain seasons as a way of growth, to bring us closer to God, to feel conviction, to enable us to slow down, and as my fiancé says, to just ‘be’ and reflect. Seasons also help us to lean into God’s calling, His will for our lives and to follow Him and to really truly listen to Him, and to read His Word, His truth. I’ve definitely found that there have been seasons where it’s made me put my full trust in God, it’s only through His help and strength that I’ve been able to make it through to the other side. No season is wasted, through each one I have grown and learned along the way.

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11.
