Journeys Of Faith With Alex and Clem

I find it so interesting reading about other people’s journey through faith. Especially when exploring and deepening my own faith, I find reading other peoples stories so motivating and inspiring. Everyone has a different story to tell and it’s so important that as Christians we document this and share our stories so that we can not only share our own journey through faith but to also help others who are on their own journey.

I’m very honoured and excited to be sharing today’s post on my blog. Alex from All Things Alexx and I have collaborated and have both answered a series of questions about our journey through faith. In today’s post we are talking about things from the perspective of someone newer to Christianity and as someone more experienced.

Alex’s Journey Through Faith

How did you find your faith?

In 2018 I lost my Nan, she was a godly woman and despite the fact she has been in ill health for over 10 years she still had such a strong faith. This faith really inspired me to look for one too. She had left me her bible when she passed and I knew that that was Gods plan for me to find a relationship in Him since I had lost the relationship with the only strong Christian in my life. I have only been building a relationship with the Lord for about a year but I feel like everyone has to start somewhere and so I want to document it to help others find their way to Him.

How do you like to develop your relationship with the Lord?

I personally love to do bible studies because they really help me learn God’s word and will as well as other important lessons I need to learn. When I’m on the go I always listen to worship music and Christian podcasts such as Hillsong London, Bought and Beloved, and As For Me And My House. These help me ground myself and spend as much time with Jesus as I can. I would love to be able to say that prayer is the best way for me however it is something I seem to struggle with, I find that I can hear Him much more when doing bible studies as the words come onto my heart as well as on my brain from the Word.

If you have had or would have any negative reactions in regards to your faith how have/would you react?

My mum is very anti religion and so she isn’t too pleased about my journey of faith, however she has not outwardly criticised it. I have just decided not to talk about it around her and to wait until she is much more accepting of it to start being open with it. This is not an ideal situation however I won’t be living with her for much longer and so the dynamics will change soon enough in my life. If I was openly attacked for it though I would kindly ask if they could respect my beliefs and that there is no way I will walk away from them so there is no need to try to convince me of that.

What is your favourite thing about the Christian faith?

The fact of never being alone. The fact that I will always have someone to turn to for love or advice or to share my sorrow with is so beautiful. Whenever I am sad or happy He is there to cheer me up or to celebrate with me, I am never dealing with anything alone which is so beautiful. I love that I have someone to guide me through the trials and tribulations of life, to give me a purpose and something to believe in when I feel lost.

What would you say to someone who is sceptical about your faith and your choice to pursue it?

I would like them to know that this choice gives me so much joy and passion, it makes me feel like I have a purpose and I have found myself something beautiful to follow. I understand not everyone can understand or believe like I do but it is only for good and if you ever feel like you want to ask questions or learn about please do so. I too am just learning but I would love to share my experiences in a respectful and loving way.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to explore and deepen their faith?

Just dive right in. Download the bible app and start reading, follow some Christian influencers/singers and learn about their journeys. Don’t be scared to do it because it is a wonderful thing to explore. Try to find some wonderful Christian people to help and guide you through this and know that you will never feel like you have wasted your time. If you are in the UK you could always join the Alpha Course which teaches about Christianity to adults and it could be a great way to meet Christians in your area but also learn more.

How do you witness to other people about the good news of the gospel?

This is something I have only really started to feel confident in, God has never put it on my heart to do until the past few months. I have started posting on my Instagram, Twitter and blog all about my bible studies and I’ve connected with some really awesome people due to that. I’ve also started conversations with people around me about my faith and it’s been a really rewarding season of life, my confidence and faith is growing and it’s making me feel like I’m blooming.

How has the word of the Lord helped you on your journey of faith?

It has been such a crucial part of it, I feel reading scripture and doing bible studies really help me connect with the Lord in such a strong way. I see the Bible as the living word of God and nothing connects you to someone than taking time to learn what they have to say. It’s something that keeps me driven and passionate to learn more and deepen my faith as it is something I can always turn to. It is something solid for me to use in all situations. That and prayer.

How did you find your faith?

I’ve always been a Christian, but throughout the years although my faith has always been there, it’s only now that I consider myself a more serious Christian. Growing up I went to Church regularly with my parents and grandparents. I attended Sunday School at the Methodist Church and then when I was in my teens, I joined a group called J-Team which was also held at the Methodist Church. After leaving J-Team, I never lost my faith but it wasn’t as strong as it could have been, and I stopped attending Church regularly and I only went on a few occasions.

My faith started to grow deeper when I was in my mid-twenties. At the time there were a few things going on and they needed to change and as I prayed and prayed, God answered my prayers in that very instant and helped me so much.

I had thought about going back to Church regularly for some time. So one Sunday I went on my own to a Church just up the road from where I live in a lovely little village. Straight away I was greeted and after the service, I got chatting to a few people and they invited me to sit down with them.

It was at this point that I felt so welcomed and instantly felt at home. Although there were still times where I didn’t attend Church regularly, my faith started to deepen and I started to read the Bible more. I also felt and knew that I wanted to be confirmed, which was something that I had been thinking about.

“Confirmation is a special church service in which a person confirms the promises that were made when they were baptized.” Church Of England.

After taking Confirmation classes, I was Confirmed on the 20th November 2016 at Bourne Abbey in Lincolnshire. It was definitely one of the best days of my life and one that I will always remember.

I am now 29 years old and even now I am constantly learning new things and continuing to deepen my faith more and more each day.

How do you like to develop your relationship with the Lord?

I love to read and study the Bible. My favourite version of the Bible to read is the NIV version, as it’s very easy to read. I also have some daily devotional books that are amazing and beautiful and help me daily.

Another favourite of mine is the YouVersion Bible App. It’s this brilliant little app where not only can you read the Bible, you can create images and put your favourite verses to them, you can highlight different verses from the bible and one of the really cool things about the app is that you can study hundreds and hundreds of different daily plans. There are so many daily plans on almost every single topic you can think of. There are also different emotions to click on, which take you to verses, plans and images to help you with however you are feeling each day.

I love to develop my relationship with the Lord more by going to Church. My mum and I go to Church on a Sunday morning. Although I am a member of a Church of England Church, we attend both a Church of England Church and also a Baptist Church.

I have also started going to Church with my mum on a Thursday morning too. It’s a more intimate service held in the Church hall. A new Bishop has recently come to the Church and I find his stories so amazing and inspiring. I leave feeling so good inside.

If you have had or would have any negative reactions in regards to your faith how have/would you react?

When it comes to negative reactions about my faith, I always take the time to listen to what someone has got to say, as I respect that people may not share the same views as me and have faith. But at the same time, I don’t let it affect me, or make me feel disheartened. And instead, share the positiveness of having faith.

I feel the best way to react in any negative confrontations from someone else, is to stay positive and remember why your faith is so important to you and to think about how God has helped you and how strong your love is. It really helps! I would also very kindly ask them to respect my beliefs as I do theirs.

What is your favourite thing about the Christian faith?

There are so many things about the Christian faith that I absolutely love. The first is definitely how happy it makes me and how much the Lord’s word helps me. I have met so many amazing fellow Christians who help me to keep positive and who are now lifelong friends.

Another one of my favourite things about the Christian faith is how positive it is and uplifting. I especially love listening to Christian music.

“Christian music is so uplifting, positive, motivational, inspiring and makes you feel so good, whilst sharing the love of God.” 33 Feel-Good Christian Songs To Brighten Up Your Day.

I also love how God is always there for me and loves me with all His heart. Even when i’m alone, I’m not truly alone, because God is there with me. He has helped me so much over the years and always continues to help me even when I have doubts and get frustrated.

What would you say to someone who is sceptical about your faith and your choice to pursue it?

I would explain to that person how much my faith helps me and I would tell them how being a Christian brings me so much happiness.

At the end of the day, you must always do what you feel is right and follow your heart. My mum always says, “Do you do what God wants you to do, or what man wants you to do.” There will always be someone who may be sceptical, but being a Christian makes me happy. I think that’s the main thing, if it makes you happy, that’s so important. And being a Christian brings me so much love and joy.

What advice would you give to someone who wants to explore and deepen their faith?

To definitely download the YouVersion Bible app that I mentioned above. The whole Bible is on the app and it’s a great way to explore and deepen your faith. There are so many amazing plans that you can study on the app.

I am a huge fan of Philippa Hanna. Her songs are so beautiful and inspiring. She also has a facebook page called Amazing You – 365 Devotions For dreamers, filled with amazing daily devotionals. Philippa also has a book called Amazing You, which is one of my most favourite daily devotional books. It’s so helpful. I also recommend checking out Philippa’s other book called Following The Breadcrumbs.

Going to Church is another fab way of exploring and deepening your faith. It’s a great way to get so much closer to God and to meet fellow Christians.

There are also so many awesome resources online. The Church Of England website has lots of great information and videos that can help. I especially love their Faith Videos.

How do you witness to other people about the good news of the gospel?

I love sharing the good news of the gospel on my social media accounts. I find it’s a great way to connect with people and to share the love of God.

“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” John 3:16

I have also started to write about my faith on my blog. Being a Christian is who I am and I want to be able to share that through my love of writing and photography.

How has the word of the Lord helped you on your journey of faith?

It has definitely helped me so much on my journey of faith. I feel so much more connected to the Lord when reading the Bible and through prayer.

I have recently started Bible Journaling. It’s a great and fun way to read and interact with the Bible. I love highlighting my favourite verses. One of my favourite verses is, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”.

I always have a Bible near me, whether it’s my Bible that I keep at the side of my bed, on my desk or the Bible app I have on my phone. Whatever emotion I am feeling, the word of the Lord helps me tremendously.

WOW such a beautiful and inspiring post! Thank you so much for sharing! It is such a blessing to see other people’s faith and how it works! God Bless.

  2. Thanks so much to you both for sharing your beliefs! It is not easy these days to be religious. It must be difficult for Alex with her mother not being keen on her faith. I hope things work out between them. I have been reading books on saints lately (my current one is St. Augustine’s Confessions) and find each one beautiful, passionate and inspiring.

    A lovely post!

  3. This is a great post. I especially understand what it’s like to not lose one’s faith but for it to get weaker.
Thanks for sharing your journey with the Lord, Clem.
