What Being A Christian Means To Me

I was shocked and saddened at reading comments left on a post on a forum recently that I am part of. I just couldn’t believe the replies that I was reading. Someone had written a post and within this post, they expressed their Christian faith. Which was returned with hateful, upsetting and inconsiderate replies. Which then resulted in the post being taken down.

I think the reason for a lot of hateful comments that were left not only in this post but comments that get left in many other posts, is because of a lack of understanding of what being a Christian really means. In this post, I am sharing with you what being a Christian means to me.

Please, please, please remember to always be kind and even if you are just replying to one person on a post that they have shared, just remember that your reply can also affect so many other people.

What Being A Christian Means To Me

There is so much love.

For me being a Christian means that there is always going to be a whole lot of love.

God loves each and everyone one of us, no matter what. And knowing just how much God loves me can make all the difference. He is constantly watching over me and wants the best for me and God forgives me. And I think that’s such an important thing to always remember.

Everyone makes mistakes, and just because I’m a Christian doesn’t mean that I don’t make mistakes, because I do! I’ve made a lot of mistakes in the past and continue to do so even now. But being a Christian does mean that I will always know that God is there right beside me. He loves me unconditionally. I trust Him.

When I’m having a bad day, whether it’s because of my chronic illnesses, or because of anxiety, being a Christian is a constant reminder that God is with me at all times. And even if it’s by just picking up my Bible and reading through the different scriptures, or reading my favourite Bible verses and my daily devotionals, or even just by going to Church, having faith helps me so much.

Having faith and trusting in God helps me to feel happy when I’m feeling sad, it helps me to feel calm when I’m feeling angry, and faith helps me to feel confident when I’m feeling afraid.

Following Jesus

Being a Christian means that I am always constantly learning from the greatest teacher of all. Following the teachings of Christ helps me in everyday life. I do this by the way I live my life and how I treat others. It’s also about thinking what would Jesus do.

“Always seek to do good to one another and to everyone.” 1 Thessalonians 5:15.

Jesus helped so many people in so many different ways. He showed love and kindness when others didn’t, which is something that this world definitely needs so much more of. Jesus didn’t ignore people, he didn’t just walk straight past someone who needed help, Jesus helped them, He listened to them and He made time for them, no matter how big or small something was. Jesus loved everyone and continues to love everyone. He even died on the cross for every single one of us.

In all situations I face, I think about what would Jesus do and how would Jesus react.

You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ Acts 20:35.

Being thankful.

As a Christian, I am forever thankful and grateful for all that I have in my life. No matter how small something may be, I am so thankful. Everything is a gift from God and I appreciate every little thing. Being thankful also brings so much happiness and positivity. It’s recognising all the good that you have in your life and outweighing the negative.

God also loves it when we are thankful. One thing I like to do when praying, is thank God for all that I have, the little things and the bigger things. I thank God for my family and friends, and I thank God for helping me daily, and for always being with me and listening to me. I also thank God for sending His greatest gift of all, Jesus.

I find that being thankful can really help a lot. Even through the hard times, It makes me realise what I do have. We really do have so much to be thankful for, especially when there are so many people all over the world who very sadly don’t have those things.

Today I am very thankful for my family and friends. I am thankful for new friendships. I am thankful for the people who help me, and for the people who even though we haven’t met in person, they bring me happiness daily.

What Being A Christian Means To Me

Seeing all the good in the world.

When watching the news on tv or listening to it on the radio, or even when reading the daily paper, it can be so hard to even think about the good in the world, because we are constantly being drawn to devastating and negative news. But there is good in the world. There are so many wonderful and amazing stories that get missed or get ignored and forgotten about.

And while it is so important for us to recognise and know what it going on within the world, it’s also so important to recognise and remember the good that comes out of it.  All over the world, there are tragic and heartbreaking events that are unfolding, But even after those devastating times, people come together and work together to help. Communities and people from all over the world are brought together. It’s seeing that there is still so much good in the world. That during tough unimaginable times, people still have faith and help one another.

Trusting in God and being a Christian helps me to stay positive. By looking at all of the positives and good within the world, it shows all of the wonderful and amazing things God is doing every single second of every day. God is so good.

God strengthens me daily.

God is my constant source of strength. Through the tough times, the sad times and some of the most difficult times that I have faced throughout my life, God has always been there, and in that moment has given me strength. The strength to face and overcome all obstacles.

God is always watching over us. I thank God every single day for being with me. During those tough moments, I have prayed, and straight away God has been there for me and strengthened me. I feel safe. He has carried me through it all.

“So do not fear, for I am with you; Do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”  Isaiah 41:10.
